2. Explain how each of the following is used to create
effects:
- soundtrack
- editing
- mise-en-scène
- camerawork
The soundtrack used to create effect in the Edge of
Tomorrow is shown to:
·
Build up
tension especially in difficult situations. The scene where they run to the
vehicles, the soundtrack goes into a high pitch tone silence which builds
tension and the audience waiting nervously for what is about to happen.
·
Playing
majestic music to show Cage’s protagonist side as the strong and powerful
status of the hero.
·
Less tense music on Vrataski showing that she is
less of a hero then Cage, stereotypically showing that women are not involved
into dangerous situations even though Vrataski character is a tough character,
she is still somehow shown less important than the male role.
The soundtrack is situated differently when going into
different scenes of The Edge of Tomorrow. The soundtrack is presented the same
as what would appear in an action adventure film with over dramatic sounds and
the fast pacing music heightening the fear in the audience ready to expect what
is going to happen. The scene where Cage and Vrataski run to the vehicles, the
soundtrack plays a high pitch tone silence to present the tension for what the
audience is prepared to see what is about to happen. This shows that in tense,
nervous atmosphere, this would have been expected in action adventure film to
show the heroic and difficult situations that the protagonist has to make in
order to save everyone else in the film. Another soundtrack to create effect in
the Edge of Tomorrow is majestic music to show Cage’s protagonist side as the
strong and powerful status of the hero whereas less tense music on Vrataski
showing that she is less of a hero then Cage, stereotypically showing that
women are not involved in dangerous situations even though Vrataski character
is a tough character showing the strongest side of women, she is still somehow
shown less important than the male role would be.
Editing
·
Slow – paste when Cage and Vrataski run to the
car, builds up the tense atmosphere of escaping from the aliens.
·
Editing is quite fast paced when they are on the
battlefield, showing fear has been heightened of emotions everywhere.
Mise-en scene
·
Battle uniform looks dirty and ragged showing
that it has been used before
·
Everything is hard based showing that the
building is more military underground (something that is always shown in action
adventure films) than a normal military base.
·
Very dark and isolated showing the fear in each
character
Camerawork
·
Panning of the fighting scenes
·
Mid- shot
·
Close –ups
·
High angle shot
·
Over the shoulder shot
·
Two shot discussing the plans on how to defeat
the aliens or escape before resetting the day again.
·
Bird’s eye view
